Adding to my last comment (#7), now I had to enter some additional transactions to gnucash, even after crashing on shutdown as described, transactions seem to be kept open fine, and on further startup, the application doesn't complain about the lock file being in use, so it looks like the crash takes place at the very end of the shutdown process, and other than the crash, nothing bad seems to be happening behind the scenes.
