Just today I received a question about bug #1319146, which details the same problem on another computer with the same results, That desktop is now working, I know not what was done to make it so but the laptop is still in need of software repair,
A kernel upgrade happened yesterday but no change in the panel or launcher, they just don't exist. With a Gnome desktop everything works. Ihave NFS, VirtualBox, all are fine. I do need Unity as it is nicer to use than Gnome.
