I was somehow able to get past this by removing then reinstalling all NVIDIA packages. I ran this to remove the packages: sudo apt-get remove "nvidia-*" sudo apt-get autoremove Then I rebooted, and then ran software-properties-gtk This brought up the Software & Updates window. In the Additional drivers tab, I selected 331.113 from nvidia-331-updates, and rebooted. Unity would then not run (not sure if this would happen for others). I reenabled it by running sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager ccsm And in the CompizConfig Settings Manager, I enabled the Ubuntu Unity Plugin. I still have nvidia-331-updates version 331.113-0ubuntu0.1 installed.
