And why does the dependency list of vlc-nox say it can have libavcodec54
or libavcodec-extra-54 installed while libavcodec-extra-54 does then
remove vlx-nox?

I don't want to replace libavcodec-extra-54 with libavcodec54 but
libavcodec54 with libavcodec-extra-54.

The point is to have libavcodec-extra-54 and vlx-nox installed at the
same time. If I remember correctly there was even the same bug report
on an earlier version of libavcodec-extra-* which should be fixed but my
tests showed that the bug still existed on the current version (probably
a regression) so I have created this ticket.
