A workaround is to add option persist (octave -q  --persist "%f") to the
execute command for octave in build menu commands dialog (@ref
http://www.geany.org/manual/current/index.html#build-menu-commands-
dialog) so octave won't terminate itself.

As you should terminate octave by hand after finishing execution also consider 
not to use the geany VTE Terminal
