the corruption certainly will go away if compiz dies and metacity is resumed, because at that point the windows are rendered onscreen and aren't using 3D textures. It's purely 3D textures that are corrupted (to confirm this, switch back to metacity, suspend, resume and run some 3d application, such as google earth or some of the xscreensaver hacks)
