Public bug reported:

A fresh, up-to-date, minimal (no GUI) install of Ubuntu Utopic (14.10)
results in a blank (completely black) console.

No kernel messages flash on the screen, no text-mode start-up screen
(with the "Ubuntu" text in the middle of the screen) appears, nothing---
just black.

The console is actually switched to tty7, as if the X server were about
to start. But because there is no GUI, the console should be switched to
tty1. (Pressing Alt-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-Right achieves this manually.)

This is a regression from Trusty (14.04), which had the correct
behavior.

This was tested on a VirtualBox amd64 install. The /etc/default/grub
file has not been touched.

At first blush, this appears to be a recurrence of bug 761830.

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
