Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: courier-imap
Possibly related to bug 135147
I run postfix + courier imap on my local machine and use fetchmail to
retrieve messages.
A few days ago after running an update, things slowed to a crawl.
In thunderbird when I hit 'get mail', it sits there saying "Sending login
information..." for about 4 minutes while disk usage is extremely heavy.
Thunderbird times out after about a minute or so without an error message, and
no new mail shows up. After thunderbird times out, disk usage is still
extremely heavy for 2-3 minutes.
Looking at the processes, imap is using almost no memory or cpu--nothing out of
the ordinary.
Syslog shows this immediately upon connection:
Sep 13 20:35:21 chrysalis imapd: Connection, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]
Sep 13 20:35:28 chrysalis imapd: LOGIN, user=aaron,
ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1], protocol=IMAP
Thunderbird times out with nothing new in the syslog.
About 30 seconds after thunderbird times out I get:
Sep 13 20:36:16 chrysalis imapd: DISCONNECTED, user=aaron,
ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1], headers=0, body=0, rcvd=118, sent=58141, time=527
Finally disk access stops and nothing else is logged.
If I manually stop courier-imap and courier-imap-ssl, disk access
returns to normal and thunderbird disconnects with a warning--as
expected.
