jtd, as a potential WORKAROUND, does the following terminal command help
address the fan noise level:
sudo cpufreq-selector --cpu=0 --governor=powersave && sudo cpufreq-selector
--cpu=1 --governor=powersave && sudo cpufreq-selector --cpu=2
--governor=powersave && sudo cpufreq-selector --cpu=3 --governor=powersave

As well, did this problem not occur in a release prior to 14.04?

Also, would the latest mainline kernel 3.19-rc6 change anything?

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
       Status: Confirmed => Incomplete
