I encountered that bug one time, when I was experimenting with Ubuntu. Almost immediately after that I installed PCLINUXOS which I prefer. I have installed/reinstalled Ubuntu and PCLINUXOS a few times since then, for experimental reasons, but never encountered that bug again. I prefer PCLINUXOS over Ubuntu, as it has proved to be bug-free, seems to be a bit faster, and can be set so no login is necessary. (I'm usually the only user on this home desktop.)
