I'm not sure why you get different versions numbers, and I am not able
to reproduce it here on Ubuntu 14.10. Have you had any earlier versions
of redis installed prior to this?
$ apt-cache policy redis-server
redis-server:

Candidate: 2:2.8.13-3
Version table:
