Installing
sl-modem-daemon_2.9.9d+e-pre2-7etch2_i386.deb
from debian non-free repository (stable release) fix the problem.
Ubuntu multiverse repository has
sl-modem-daemon_ 2.9.10+2.9.9d+e-pre2-5ubuntu1.deb instead.
I checked packages and just slmodemd binary differs. (init scripts like
sl-modem-daemons etc. are the same).
It should be good to update the package in the repository, debian
package come from stable etch release.
