Hello Hans, Please apologize for the time you have spent.
Firstly I thought it could be a problem related to dist-upgrading from ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. Having made a new installation of 14.10, the "same problem" occurred. I checked it out better and found that redis-* 2.6.9 are installed with Anaconda3 (full python package for science). As, typically, it's path is lastly appended to PATH, the redis-* ran were that one and not those (2.8.x) from Ubuntu. I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience a cause. Thank you.
