Desktop sometimes does not show the word "Activities" or show the icons
when I clip on the space where "Activities" would appear. But there is
some vague shadow in the space where the icons would appear, and if I
click on that shadow, the activity shows up, ver slowly.  Also the
cursor follows the motion of the. mouse in a very jerky fashion
