I just had another 'lockup' after about 11 days with the same error
message - Feb 13 19:05:22 localhost kernel: [807775.808019]
[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render
ring idle as has been the norm lately I see a black screen with a
movable mouse cursor. CTRL-ALT-F1 will not take to to a log-in screen. I
have to manually shut down the system with the power button. Doesn't
anyone have an idea as to what to do to troubleshoot this problem? This
is on my Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS system running kernel 3.13.0-45-generic
#74-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 13 19:36:28 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux. I'm getting no where trying to do this kernel bisection. Am I
the only Ubuntu user in the whole world that is experiencing this
problem? I definitely want to help get this fixed however I'm just not
getting anywhere.
