Mathieu,
I'm really sorry for the delay... been busy lately.
Good news, bad news.
The good news is, I used the same ISO i had originally downloaded (which passed
the checksum as i had indicated) and created a new bootable installation USB
stick (using PenDriveLinux Universal USB Installer... which i used the first
time), and this time the install worked!  So i'm not sure if there was some
sort of problem with the first USB installer i created.  I used the exact same
USB stick, just overwrote the existing installer.
The bad news is, of course, i'm unable to capture the info you've requested, as
i had already done the reinstall prior to receiving your email.  I'm doubtful
it was a corrupted sector (on either the hard disk or the USB stick, as both
are relatively new).  If there's any value in sending you the "sources.list"
file, just let me know and i'll get it to you.
So now, i've got dual-boot setup, with Windows7 installed on an MBR/BIOS disk
and Ubuntu installed on a GPT/UEFI disk (because it's > 2TB).  Thought, from
what i've researched, that this was problematic with the Ubuntu installer with
dual-boot, but it seems to work fine.  And i'm using the GRUB bootloader,
rather than the Windows boot-loader on initial boot-up, and everything seems to
work fine.
Tks again for your help!
Cheers,Todd

Subject: [Bug 1412178] Re: Installer for 14.04 crashes

The crash doesn't appear to be related to grub though; in
UbiquitySyslog.txt; we see it instead mentions
/target/etc/apt/sources.list -- the sources.list file that would get
installed on the installed system -- is not found or corrupt.

If you try this installation again, could you switch to a different VT
during the installation (at the end, mostly, when or not long before it
shows the error), and run 'ls -l /etc/apt', then if the file is there,
also copy its contents somewhere to attach to this bug?

The error towards then end mentions line 3 on the file, so perhaps there
what is happening here is hitting a failing, corrupted sector on the
disk?
