I can see that maintaining 2 virtualbox-x11 packages in one release is
not desirable, but at the end of the day Ubuntu Trusty is meant to be
supported until 2019. How many more hardware stacks will be released in
that time and will virtualbox remain locked against the original stack
all that time?

I don't know the technicalities of packaging this, but is it not
possible to use the Utopic virtualbox-x11 package and change the
dependencies to point to xorg-lts-utopic?
