I'm confused by this. The fix was a setting problem, and I was informed
a long time ago. Moribius1 nailed it on July 21st, in the page
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2235440&p=13078735#post13078735
, also referencing
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfe/+bug/1029256 . Fixed by :
System Settings > Language Support > Keyboard Input Method System > From
IBUS to None: Apparently a setting changed in 14.04 defaults from
earlier Ubuntu versions?

It works fine now, just rechecked it. Definitely NOT a BIOS problem.

I don't have the latest BIOS, but I also don't know of any bugs that
affect operations. Everything seems to work fine. Where can I see info
on the Ubuntu problems with this BIOS?

Just for reference, here is the output from the command sudo dmidecode -s
bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date :
BHZ7710H.86A.0057.2012.0208.1904
