Please install the debugging symbols and post a backtrace, as follows
(in a terminal):
$ sudo apt-get install libsimgearcore3.0.0-dbg libsimgearscene3.0.0-dbg gdb
[3.0.0 is the version in official 14.04; 3.4.0 if you are using the PPA]
$ gdb fgfs
(gdb) set pagination 0
(gdb) run
[wait for the crash - which will freeze the FlightGear window, not close it -
then return to the terminal window]
(gdb) bt full
[post output]
(gdb) quit
