I stand by the comment that the installer makes that this is probably due to a faulty disk or drive (even if Feisty installs fine; you might well be on some kind of borderline as far as the drive is concerned), and that you should clean the drive as a first resort. However, I'm reassigning over to the kernel team just in case there's something wrong with the driver. There's nothing that the installer can do here.
