I'm experiencing the same bug so I confirmed it. When I use my normal locale (german) Gramps crashes with a segmentation fault.
When I start Gramps with LANG=C it works and I get the following output: Spelling checker cannot be used without language set. Set your locale appropriately to use spelling checker. LPRDoc: Free true type fonts not found. Microsoft true type fonts not found. Using Gnome standard fonts. Non-ascii characters will appear garbled in the output.
