Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Without knowingly changing anything, I'm hit by the 10 seconds bug, working a
month or more with ubuntu 7.04. As far I have seen there is no general solution
and because my .xsession-errors log is different from all others I've seen here
and there, I'll report it again. System ubuntu 7.04, clean install, all updates
applied.
My .xsession-error log is this
-------------------------------------------
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/X11R6/bin/sessreg -a -w
/var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0"
"michael"
/etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
bind: Permission denied
--------------------------------------------
Strange to me is the last line. I haven't installed bind. After logging in into
a save session, all works fine.
