The device is not detected, /var/log/syslog shows:

scanbuttond: no known scanner found yet, waiting for device to be attached
scanbuttond: scanbuttond started
scanbuttond: rescanning devices...
scanbuttond: no supported devices found. rescanning in a few seconds...

The USB ids for the 2013 Fujitsu ix500 document scanner are missing in
the source code of the package. The appropriate ids have to be added to
the hard coded list of compatible device ids. No further changes
required.

A patch is attached. Can be applied by:

cd ..
dpkg -i scanbuttond_0.2.3.cvs20090713-16_amd64.deb
