@Olga Kemmet: as Michael Zandi said: "The bq hardware seems to be a bit special in that it turns off the modem completely in flight mode and loses the unlocked state. Ubuntu touch itself doesn't require to re-enter the sim pin after flight mode. On the nexus 4 for instance, the SIM card stays unlocked."
