It is much easier to find zombie tasks if you just do:

ps -ef | grep defunct

top - 23:58:49 up 8 days, 23:18,  4 users,  load average: 2.36, 2.25, 2.17
Tasks: 628 total,   3 running, 194 sleeping,   0 stopped, 431 zombie
