Just in case, I solved the problem by creating a file ~/.Xdefaults where
I put this line
$ cat .Xdefaults
*font: -*-dina-medium-r-*-*-16-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
No crash for nedit this time.
When I remove the file ".Xdefaults" or rename it to something else,
nedit segfaults.This seems like nedit cannot find the default fonts...
