According to the release notes of gutenprint, the Canon iP4100 series has improved (EXPERIMENTAL) support since version 5.2.9 and 12.04 still has gutenprint 5.2.8. Please try if the newer gutenprint 5.2.9+ included in vivid, 15.04 or 14.04 LTS solves your problem.
