I am affected by this bug on a Dell E6520 using Ubuntu 14.04. Use of the trackpoint freezes the system, maybe every minute. Pressing Ctrl-Alt F1 followed by Ctrl-Alt F2 unfreezes it. Only solution right now is an external mouse.
