I cannot confirm that the applet does not appear in settings, nor can I
confirm there are problems with sound. I had no problem getting sound
output via the web. I wonder if you don't have some issue with your
sound card. Can you confirm it works with some other Linux distro? If
you can, we need some additional information on your sound card (lspci
-nnk | grep -A 2 Audio).
