I've just updated from Utopic to Vivid and I think I have the same problem. Icons in the Unity Launcher are jagged (see for example Sublime Text icon in screenshot unity-launcher-a.png). Notice the difference between Sublime Text icon in unity-lancher-a.png and unity- launcher-b.png- in the second screenshot I modified /usr/share/applications/sublime-text.desktop by setting Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/sublime-text.png instead of Icon=sublime-text. The icon looks much better than in unity- launcher-a.png. It seems that if Icon parameter is set to "sublime- text", Unity automatically picks icons which are the closest to launcher icon size configured in Appearance Settings (34px in my case). Thus the Sublime Text icon in unity-launcher-a.png is actually the 48x48 icon, scaled down. The problem is that something is wrong scaling, and the resulting icons look bad. Other bad-looking examples in my screenshots are: Digikam, Eclipse, Terminal.
