I've had a really hard time with this one. Ubuntu 14.10 did an auto upgrade/update to Ubuntu 15.04 when I was asked if I wanted to upgrade/update - The first thing that happened was Steam quit working completely and I was advised to use the Additional Drivers app to switch to NVIDIA versions instead of the nouveau.
When I switched the driver(s), Ubuntu 15.04 looped at the login screen, asking for my password but giving an 'incorrect password' message every time, even though I entered the correct one. (have it written down -just in case) I used <sudo remove NVIDIA.*> and lo, 15.04 allowed my password to work and I was allowed to login, but again - Steam would NOT install and in the apps, when I right clicked on the icon for Steam it said that Steam was: Installed on - none The problem seems to be between more than just the video driver(s) and Steam (to my VERY novice Linux eyes) because the password(s) only fail when the NVIDIA drivers (any of them that are offered on the Additional Drivers app) are installed and work when those drivers are removed. Everything else on my desktop is working just like it did for 14.10 and only Steam has failed - so far. I am using an old GeForce 9600 video card if that matters - oh, and even Ubuntu 15.04 keeps asking where /vmlinuz-3-16.0-31-generic is ... and I'm noob enough to not have a clue but have found that I can get my system to load by changing the 31 to 34 at least. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432004 Title: Nvidia broken after update on 15.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/steam/+bug/1432004/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
