This also affects me in vivid. The problem is that min_fanval wasn't set. Up
above it is set inside an
"if [[ -n ${fan} ]]" block, so it's not set if you're not using fan RPM
sensors. This was fixed in r6255: http://lm-sensors.org/changeset/6255
