Hi, I am also having this problem. Have downloaded the i386 and 64AMD ISOs and burned them both with Nero 7.
I suspect it may be the PC as I have a older version 6.06 running on a laptop that is working just fine and even the CD that I suscessfully installed version 6.06 onto the laptop gets a similar message to the version 7.04 when being installed on to the AMD64 PC. Cant do an output as its part of the install and you lose the Ubuntu screen and just get text with about 7 or 8 of the "Users not know....etc" lines before the kernal al..... If it is the PC then maybe there is a setting in the BIOS???? Not sure, any help would be appreciated.
