I simply observe users every couple of days being confused by this change and am asking if there is something that we can do to help them. It seems that there are people who use (for example) irssi with gnome-terminal but not tabs. They would have had no need to know about these shortcuts before and making the leap to find out about it is going to be tricky. It's fair enough to just say that this is the new behaviour and users just have to fix it themselves if they want. The solution is available on various blogs, as you say. I was just hoping we could do something nice.
