Just to clarify why that happens. In the file manager selection window there are shown all the handlers for "inode/directory" file type which is MIME type for folders and folders apparently should be handled by file managers. BTW, the same assumption is made by other applications which have option "Open directory containing the file" - web browsers for example. Therefore if some audio players pretend to handle folders, i.e. in fact pretend to work as file managers then it should be fixed in those players packages indeed.
