Yes, it is reproducible, using the specific steps outlined in my
original description. No other applications do this and it also happens
booting a vm from the livecd and installing gnome-logs and running it
there.
Be sure that you are running "gnome-logs" and not the older log viewer.
The left bar should say "important", "all", etc, not "syslog",
"Xorg.log", etc.
