But then I had an AMD-Vi IOAPIC error in dmesg, but that's another issue which seems to have already been reported. So I'm back to trying 14.04, but grub2 failed with a "can't install to target" error. I'm about to try a 14.04 reinstall so I'll test the media and RAM now. The tests should still be valid even though it's 14.04. If I can't get 14.04 to install I'll try 14.10 again with the same tests.
