There is an easy fix to this bug (which appears on my nvidia system as well).
Edit: /usr/bin/compiz Find: "GL_MAX_3D_TEXTURE_SIZE" Replace with: "GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE" That fix was posted on an unbuntu forum by ButteBlues, and it works for me.
