If you can use the AnyConnect protocol instead of IPSec, then OpenConnect shouldn't have the 7½ hour disconnection issue that you see with vpnc. That's probably something to do with unimplemented rekeying in vpnc. We *do* support rekeying in OpenConnect.
OpenConnect itself can handle keeping the connection alive when you roam. NetworkManager can't though.
