I run standard Ubuntu and am not familiar with MATE. A couple years ago
I may have tried it briefly in another Linux distro. I forget. Months
ago I tried Lubuntu which as I remember didn't have the "hashing"
problem. I think it uses LXDE. There's Kubuntu, Gnome, ... however many
variations of Ubuntu. I've tried NEXT a couple of times but it didn't
do much so I don't know if it has the problem. Now there's "Snappy" I'
ve no clue what desktop it has or just command line?.

I use "out of the box" Ubuntu U+1 looking for bugs that would be
applicable to the most (?) users. "Unity" has had lots of
bugs....including this one..

How is MATE installed? Can I switch between Mate and Unity desktops or
do I do an install?

How is MATE removed after testing it? example re-installing standard
Ubuntu or just starting Unity?

Thanks.

BTW, my impression this bug is closely tied to xserver or to how Ubuntu
Unity is using xserver. I have other pc's with different hardware and
different video chips that don't exhibit this problem. This Lenovo M58p
has an Intel 64 bit dual processor 3 GHz and is the fastest of my pc's.
All is not great with 15.10 on the other pc's example an Intel 32 bit 3
GHz Compaq which has annoyingly slow video with 15.05 and 15.10 but
14.04 video is quite usable. I've forgotten which video benchmarks
might be more believable to the Ubuntu Devs?
