I would also rise priority, since the issue - makes it often impossible to shut down the machine cleanly, requiring a hard reset which may result in data loss; - I imagine that it can make it quite hard to install security updates from ubuntu as any update of the kernel package tends to result in the system hanging at the make initramfs phase, that probably queries all system drives.
