I just did that, and the upgrade worked without a hitch. So I'm afraid
we still don't have a reproducer for this..

/dev/vda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw,relatime)
/dev/mapper/ubu-ubu--usr on /usr type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/mapper/ubu-ubu--tmp on /tmp type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/mapper/ubu-ubu--home on /home type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/mapper/ubu-ubu--var on /var type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
