Public bug reported:

I have a Nivida Geforce 7600 GS on a machine used infrequently. A month
of so ago it worked fine, recent updates have broken the graphics
drivers.

It can boot to the login screen which looks OK, but is almost
unresponsive bringing up a desktop. Even for a guest login. Once
loaded, graphics are corrupt with icons etc showing mostly random
coloured pixels. All package are up to date. Purging all the nvidia
drivers and using the nouveau drivers works fine, enabling a normal
login.

I have checked the nvidia site and this driver is the most recent that
supports my graphics card.

Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
nvidia-304: 304.125-0ubuntu0.0.1
