With proper GPU support, compositing desktops should be much faster and
smoother than the previous iteration.
Anyway, if what you want is a Gnome2 like interface - https://ubuntu-mate.org/
might be what you want.
I'm also hopeful that Unity8 will be faster than Unity is currently due
to it's need to run on lower powered hardware.
I'm going to go ahead and close it, because it isn't a bug to be fixed,
more a project direction request.
