Public bug reported:

Each time I install a kernel update (or more likely the accompanying
module update), my sound stops working - nothing plays out of the
speakers and the sound config applet does not recognize any devices. I
have to recompile alsa-source with module-assistant in order to reenable
sound. Are there some changes in the alsa source that need to be merged
into the module package? This is on a dell Vostro 1500 with an Intel HDA
card (also described in the bios as Sigmatel 9205)
