I looked a bit into this issue and discovered that it has been recently
fixed in linux-ftpd 0.17-35 which is available in Ubuntu Wily. See the
changes at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/wily
/linux-ftpd/wily/revision/13 for details.

Since this issue has been resolved in the latest development release of
Ubuntu, I believe this can be marked as fixed. The typo doesn't seem
critical, so I'm afraid it probably won't qualify for an SRU
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#When) for older releases.
