With boot set to init=/bin/bash it hangs within 5-30 seconds of a bash prompt.
dmesg -n 8 doesn't cause anything interesting to be logged alt-sysreq -anything does nothing before it hangs, say while running top, top doesn't run evenly - pressing space under top doesn't always refresh the screen right away.
