The open Source drivers don't work perfectly for everything. For desktop use, I would certainly recommend the Open Source drivers over the proprietary ones. They actually run WebGL and JavaScript canvas functions faster.
However, for gaming, the Open Source drivers currently lack full OpenGL 4.x support, and thus run into certain issues with some shaders not rendering properly on the latest games. Even if this were not the case, it is not a reason to refuse to update the drivers. As of the latest XOrg, it seems to be running fine with the X-Edgers version of XOrg and the current Ubuntu package. I suspect if the XOrg support patches are pushed forward to the latest driver release they should still work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462027 Title: [Needs updating] Update fglrx to include AMD 15.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1462027/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
