I reinstalled same ubuntu 14.04 disk and this time kept whole installation
on same partition instead of separate home partition on different physical
hard drive. Booted OK with some resolvable grub issues.  Lost windows 10
overlay and reverted to underlying windows 7.  Not troubled by this but the
war of dominance between
Linux vs windows a headache.

Happy with final result.
