Looks like this is a known issue upstream with GCC 5; our solution of
explicitly building with GCC 4.x has also been use in Fedora.

Unfortunately the patch provided at the start of the "boot... round 2"
thread is probably a little naive, I need to read the whole thread and
see if something has already been committed in git.
